Confessions of a Mama about...Dresses and Daugters!

Today Hannah gets to go to a Tea Party for her friend Sydney's birthday. She, like any other four year old, is extremely excited about this party. On the invitation it said to come dressed in your Sunday or dress up best. Last night, Hannah asked me what she was going to wear to the party. I, being a mother who always wants her child to look her best, told her that we were going to get her all dressed up in her cute chocolate brown dress with the pink polka dots and the pale pink sash. Hannah's response, "I HAVE to wear CHURCH CLOOOOTHES!!!" In that response, I completely saw myself at her age. I HATED wearing dresses. The only days that I wore dresses were on Sundays and picture days at school. I didn't grow out of this hatred of fancy clothes until I got a grown up job and realized it was nice to dress up like said "grown up" and be treated with the respect that such wear demands. I didn't realize that Hannah felt like this about dresses at all because she loves to wear dress up dresses (which I did not)! And she loves to wear skirts and skorts and the like. Of course I can completely relate to her dissatisfaction toward wearing "church clothes" to a birthday party. I quickly changed course and told her that she could wear her Snow White dress and she skipped away as happy as can be.

So to all you doubters out there (there may be one or two, but their probably aren't any), it's official. Hannah really is my daughter and a lot more like me than I even realized! Too all you fellow readers and bloggers out there, which one of your kids is the most like you and what was your Ah Ha, light bulb moment when you discovered this to be so? Let me know in the comments I'd love to hear from you...

Hannah's been Tagged

Christmas in July

Since I didn't have a blog yet at Christmas time I thought that it would be fun to post some Christmas pictures now. We like to stay home for Christmas. On Christmas Eve Sam always fixes an awesome Christmas dinner of Prime Rib and Crab. We eat ourselves silly and then I make some kind of delicious dessert that we are usually too full to eat! Before the kids go to bed we sit down together as a family and read the Nativity story from the Bible and then the kids leave a note, cookies and milk for Santa and they are off to bed. After they are snoozing SANTA COMES! We have a great time helping Santa assembling and arranging presents so that everything will fit under the tree. Then it's off to bed for the big kids too.

In the morning we usually end up waking our kids up because we are too excited to wait for them to get up on their own. We then light all of our Christmas candles and turn on "Joy to the World" by Manheim Steamroller. Then we let the kids out of their bedrooms to see what Santa brought. Hannah is excited beyond measure and can hardly believe that Santa was able to fit all of the toys into his sleigh. Elise gets excited because Hannah is excited (although this year I think she'll get excited all on her own!) We open up presents and then Daddy makes a wonderful yummy breakfast of Puff Pancakes (similar to Swedish Pancakes) with delicious fruit topping. And we eat ourselves silly once again. Then for the rest of the day we hang around the house playing with all the new toys and cutting them out of their packaging and we usually watch a Christmas Story a couple times. All in all a great time is had by all and I wouldn't change it for the world! Merry Christmas in July everyone!
