The Olympics are still here but my blog is no longer Patriotic!

I have to admit that having the Olympic background was driving me nuts! I didn't like the look of it at all. I left it up for a week to show solidarity with the U.S. Olympians but enough is enough and that gray color was awful!

My Future Olympian!

Hannah is taking swimming lessons right now. Because of her lessons she has taken a special interest in the Olympics. She loves watching the swimming. She notices when Michael Phelps "blows bubbles" just like her! She has also been enjoying the gymnastics and has taught herself how to almost do a cartwheel. Hannah is fearless when it comes to doing flips and jumps and somersaults. She is a girl after my own heart. I love you Hannah, my little future Olympian!

The Olympics are coming!

Okay, I just have to say that I LOVE the Olympics! That's why I changed my background to this new super fan design. It is with pride that I say GO USA! I'm actually really excited to be able to see some stories about China in addition to the Olympics. The country is under such tight media control. It will be interesting to see what kind of things we can learn about China through the magnifying glass of the Olympic Games. My favorite events to watch are, of course, gymnastics and also diving. This picture is of Raj Bhavsar a late addition to the USA Mens Gymnastic team. He is Paul Hamm's replacement although no one can really replace Paul Hamm.

I like gymnastics in part because I can still remember seeing Mary Lou Retton score her perfect 10s in the '84 Olympics. After that, my brother Daniel and I used to pretend that we were gymnasts in the front yard and I of course always scored a 10! I just knew that my flipping around on the apple tree branch was going to take me places, not to mention my "daring" front hand spring. I always wanted to be a gymnast and make it on the cover of Wheaties! Do they even make Wheaties anymore?
As for Diving, I think that the reason that I like it so much is the opposite reason that I like gymnastics. I never dreamed of being an Olympic diver. I have always been pretty afraid of diving. Watching other people dive gets my adrenaline pumping and makes me feel nervous and scared and excited all at once. I don't want them to fail. I hold my breath as they bounce off of the board and plunge into the beautiful clear blue water. This is something that I would never be able to do myself. I enjoy watching the expertise and precision that these divers obtain. The picture below is a fine example of what I look like when I dive! So how about you fellow bloggers?
